Mages:
The Mages have the Ceremonial Casting modifier for their magery, aswell at the Solitary Ceremonial Casting (+10%) modifier, and Require Foci (-20%) modifier for a net -50%. Mages normally have Magery lvl 2 or more. Mages must also have the Rune-Lore Advantage (Semi-litterate), at a cost of 5 pts. Spells are typically engraved on ”Spells Rods” which are, staffs about a foot long and an inch wide, or “Spell Slates” which are ceramic plates about a foot long, 1½ foot wide and ¼ inch thick. Learning a spell from a “Spell Rod” is at -2 to Thaumatology, due to the shorthand used to compress it.
Mages have the Social Regard (Mage) at 5 points.
Witches:
The Witches have the same modifiers as the Mages, as above, but in addition, they also have no written material, so they must remember all spells, incantations and rituals by heart, which limits them to a number of spells equal to their IQ. This is the Oral Tradition (-20%) Modifier. Add 50% to this in case of the eidetic Memory Advantage, and 100% in case of Photographic Memory. Last by not least the Witches are weaker then their other Magic-workers, and are limited to 1 level of Magery, which is the One Level Magery Only (-10%) Modifier. This makes their Magery work out at a net modifier percentage of -80%, so their magery cost 1 point for level 0 and an additional 2 points for level 1.
Witches are typically status 0, as any normal citizen, and are viewed much like any other craftsman. Witches almost always function as doctors and veterinarians. Old Witches are often renown, and enjoy social standing, but this is due to their Age and not their Magical Skills.
Relationship:
The relationship between the two types of magic-workers are actually quite good. It is common for a Mage to send for the local Witch, in case of a tricky enchantment etc, and also the other way around, when in comes to healing or other Witch-like fields. Both Mages and Witches have a respectful, though somewhat sober, relationship with the Druids, which is mutual. Their relationship with the Dapplers of the Dark Arts are very strained. They suffer from the Intolerance (Dapplers of Dark Arts, -5 Reaction [-1].
